Topic for discussion
With a partner, students take turns (teacher indicates who is first) brainstorming ideas, sharing facts about a specified topic. Rounds are timed and each partner gets a certain number of equally timed rounds.
Round 1: Student 1 speaks, student 2 listens (45 seconds)
Round 2: Student 2 speaks, student 1 listens (45 seconds)
Round 3: Student 1 speaks, student 2 listens (30 seconds)
Round 4: Student 2 speaks, student 1 listens (30 seconds)
Rounds can be repeated as desired. It is important that students understand that ONLY ONE PERSON CAN TALK IN EACH ROUND. At the conclusion, students are asked to write or discuss what they know and have learned. This activates prior knowledge.
