Envelopes with review questions inside
The teacher explains that at the end of the class period each student will be responsible to orally answer his or her question as part of a whole class review. Students are not allowed to open the envelopes. At the review time, the teacher moves from student to student, asking, “The envelope, please.” The teacher opens the envelope and reads the question. The student then gives the answer.
Sometimes the teacher may decide to have unsealed envelopes and allow students to see the question ahead of time. Or, the teacher may have sealed the envelope, but just prior to review time allow all students to open their envelopes and seek out the answer.
